The Prince of Venice

The Prince of Venice

The Prince of Venice is a Cypriot folk tale from the collection of Costas Proussis, brought to life through the richly detailed illustrations of Hambis Tsangaris. At the heart of the story is the young Rigopoula, a determined heroine who faces her adventures with courage and ingenuity, drawing on both human and magical means to shape her own destiny. Hambis worked extensively on the tale, researching its world and travelling to Venice as part of the process of developing its distinctive visual interpretation.

First published as an illustrated book in 1994, the revised second edition was published in 2011. The text is presented in Cypriot dialect, with translations into Modern Greek and English by Costas Proussis and into French by Hélène Reeb-Tsangaris.
