The Prince of Venice – The Barber
A silkscreen print by Hambis Tsangaris, dated 2008, connected to his celebrated series of illustrations for the Cypriot folk tale The Prince of Venice (Το Βασιλόπουλλο της Βενεδιάς). Hambis worked extensively on the tale, researching its historical and folkloric background and travelling to Venice as part of the development of its imagery. First published as an illustrated book in 1994, The Prince of Venice became one of the best-known examples of his engagement with Cypriot oral tradition, bringing together storytelling, printmaking and cultural memory.
