The art of lithography, which emerged at the end of the 18th century as the third printmaking technique\u2014after woodcut and engraving\u2014is presented in a new exhibition at the Hambis Printmaking Museum in Platanisteia.<\/p>\n
The exhibition, titled\u00a0\u201cLithography and Its Evolution\u201d<\/strong>, curated by\u00a0H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Reeb<\/strong>, initially presents lithographs printed from a single stone (19th\u201321st century), both monochrome and hand-colored using stencil or brush techniques. From the 19th century onward, many lithographic workshops replaced the bulky and costly lithographic stones with thin sheets of zinc or aluminum. The exhibition at the Hambis Printmaking Museum includes a fine collection of zinc lithographs. Photolithographs and offset lithographs are also presented, as well as monotypes.<\/p>\n Important works by artists from many countries are exhibited, including\u00a0Eug\u00e8ne Delacroix, Honor\u00e9 Daumier, Fran\u00e7ois Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Dimitrios Galanis, Hap Grieshaber, Alekos Fassianos, Panayiotis Tetsis,<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Dimitris Alithinos<\/strong>. \nThese are followed by the first color lithographs\u2014two-color prints\u2014produced during the second quarter of the 19th century, and subsequently by multicolored lithographs, commonly known as chromolithographs.<\/p>\n
