Soraya AL BAKSAMI


Soraya Al Baksami is a pioneering Kuwaiti artist, writer, and printmaker whose career has shaped the landscape of contemporary art in the Gulf region. Emerging as one of the first active female artists in the 1960s, she developed a distinctive visual language informed by personal experience, cultural identity, and the profound impact of the 1990–91 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Her work spans painting, printmaking, and illustration, often exploring themes of humanity, resilience, and the female experience. With more than sixty solo exhibitions worldwide and artworks held in major international collections, she remains a vital voice in modern Middle Eastern art.
